What is a Geriatrician?
Geriatric Medicine
Geriatricians are physicians who specialize in the care of seniors. To become a geriatrician, a physician must first complete a residency in either internal or family medicine. To become certified in geriatrics, a physician then must complete a fellowship in geriatric medicine and pass a board exam. During fellowship, the physician studies diseases that are common in the elderly as well as learning to care for the often complex needs of the senior population.
